Big City Farms has been a leader in the local
food movement in central Indiana, particularly in regards to the possibilities
within urban agriculture. Over the
years, the farm has steadily expanded from utilizing numerous, scattered vacant
residential lots to the development and management of a one-acre site in the
heart of downtown Indianapolis, as well as a two-acre site in a residential area on the
northwest side of the city.
Since 2009, Big City Farms has operated a successful Community Supported Agriculture program and worked directly with local chefs to help build the vitality of Indianapolis' food culture. Most recently, the farm has partnered with Farm Works Indy, an innovative youth employment and empowerment program that is mentoring a new generation of community food leaders.
Throughout all of this, the farm prides itself on consistently focusing on growing unique and delicious vegetables in the most sustainable way possible.
