I'm an Indianapolis native, having grown up on the mean streets of Broad Ripple. After high school, I wandered around the country a couple times over. I read about American culture in Connecticut, tended some terrific livestock in Massachusetts, baked delicious breakfast pastries in Portland, OR, helped out at a couple community gardens in New York City, learned to grow wonderful vegetables in Massachusetts, and finally made my way back to Indianapolis.
After working for the Marion County Extension Service helping to develop community gardens around town, I decided to strike out on my own and start Big City Farms in the beginning of 2009. It's been a joy to participate in the resurgence of agriculture in my hometown - watching community gardens thrive, witnessing new farms develop in the most unlikely places, and having conversations with strangers and friends who are newly-excited about food and farming.
When I'm not farming, I can be found working on some well-intentioned carpentry project, talking about musical and barbecue endeavors, or getting out of town for some traveling adventure with my sweetheart. Most often, though, you'll find me spending time with my wonderful son, who manages to keep getting bigger and better every day.
